What is MUN?
United Netherlands aims to create a platform where talented, ambitious and motivated young people challenge each other to develop their full potential as global citizens.
To this end the organization:
- Unites students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to reflect on international issues;
- Provides students with the skills and knowledge required to deal effectively with global challenges;
- Creates a network of driven young people with vision.
RiMUN forms an important program within United Netherlands, and is vital to establish this platform. We at RiMUN want to enable highly motivated and ambitious students to thrive in an environment where you can improve and work on skill development in critical thinking, debate and cooperation. RiMUN is of great value to both experienced MUNers, but also enthusiastically welcomes all of those new to the Model United Nations concept.
What is MUN?
Model United Nations (also Model UN or MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of students participate in various MUNs around the world. The purpose of a MUN conference is to allow participants to experience international politics and diplomacy in a setting that is very similar to the real United Nations. Delegates face the difficult challenge of setting aside their own personal views on a specific topic and accurately protecting the interests of the country they represent. In addition, they must not only keep in mind their national interest, but, in the spirit of the United Nations, also serve the notion of international cooperation in order to protect and promote such interests as global peace, security, and prosperity. It requires not only strong debating and negotiating skills, but also a thorough investigation of the issue to be discussed and its political, societal, and legal background. But most of all, it requires enthusiasm of the participants.
