New keynote speaker

Due to circumstances Christa Meindersma unfortunately had to cancel. However we are glad to welcome Aldrik Gierveld as the new keynote speaker of RiMUN 2011.

Preparation materials

New preparation materials have been uploaded, in order for you to be prepared as best as possible. We created four documents which should help to get you better acquainted with the MUN system.

In order to be considered for winning an Award, your position paper should be send to rimun@unitednetherlands.org before April 8.

Deadline position paper extended

The deadline for handing in the position paper is extended until April 8. Keep in mind, if you want to be considered for winning an ward you should hand it in by sending an email to rimun@unitednetherlands.org

Late registration until March 28

Missed the official deadline of March 18? Did not have the means to pay directly or could not make up your mind? No worries. With some spots left to fill we have late registration with the final deadline on March 28, which gives you the opportunity to put your student loan to good use! Make sure to save your spot at RiMUN 2011.

Is taking PayPal too long, there is also the possibility to pay through bank transfer. Transfer the €60,- to bankaccount 114397392 on name of Stg. United Netherlands at the Rabobank Nijmegen, using the subject Registration RiMUN.

Symposium March 16

 
Dear delegates, join the debate on Western development aid!
To kick off RiMUN, we are organizing a symposium in Nijmegen on March 16. This symposium is organized together with the Soeterbeeck Programme, and is titled ‘So you think you can help? The future of Western development aid’.
 
The symposium is open to all students. We hope to see you there!

First study guides online

When logged in on the website, you can find on the top of the page the documents necessary to prepare for RiMUN. Here you can find the Rules of Procedure, and the first three study guides (of UNEP, DISEC and the HRC). The study guides of the UNSC and EU will come online as soon as possible.

In-committee lectures

See who will give an inspiring lecture on your committee topics.

European Union
The committee topics will be introduced by dr. Marcel de Haas, who is a Senior Research Associate at the Clingendael Security and Conflict Programme. He has formerly fulfilled positions as military-political analyst, lecturer in international relations and international law, head research branch NATO School and policy advisor at the Dutch Defence Staff. One of his current projects at the Clingendael Institute is the cooperation between Russia and the EU.

UNEP
Simon Kalf, boardmember of Peak Oil Nederland, will provide a lecture on the current oil crises and will introduce some of his ideas on sustainable solutions.

HRC
The committee topics will be introduced by René Rouwette, who holds a PhD-position at Utrecht University and at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM). In his interdisciplinary project, Rouwette focuses on the theme of EU cooperation at the UN-Human Rights Commission and at the Council. In 2009, Rouwette worked as a visiting professional at the Netherlands Permanent Mission in Geneva.
